Electric cars do not help the environment, unless...

Lot of money is being spent on hyping the electric cars. Would electric cars actually help global warming problem by reducing CO2 and air pollution? Answer is "definite No," unless they are charged up by alternative power e.g. Solar, Wind etc. Otherwise we are simply sending CO2 from the cities and freeways to fossil fueled power stations. Net amount of Global warming CO2 and other air pollutants remains the same. It is common sense. I am surprised nobody mentions this fact. Electric cars would actually reduces the total efficiency of the process. First, convert fossil fuel power into electricity, send it over hundreds of miles, charge batteries with it and convert electric current into mechanical power. Each stage is less than 100% efficient: principle of thermodynamics. Net result: a major loss of efficiency at each step. Where is the gain in driving electric cars? No gain whatsoever; only net loss of power at each stage. Unless, charging stations at home or at public stations electric comes from alternative power; Solar, Wind and other alternative sources, NOT NUCLEAR PLANTS. That is another subject. Using nuclear power to avert global warming is like falling from "frying pan into fire." Nuclear Power is capable of intensely polluting the soil and water that will cause a slow death of our civilization.

Why don't the designers of electric cars talk about it, or think about it? You tell me!

Answer to our environmental problems lies in "power use efficiency," and undertaking serious conservation efforts. Above all, it lies in reducing the ever accelerating burden of overpopulation on Earth that would help reduce the ballooning power demand.
